a dedication

This cookie business is dedicated to my sister Shannon Ryan. She was an amazing chef and baker who lived and worked in Brooklyn NY, and most recently worked at a great restaurant in NYC. I wouldn’t be the baker or home cook that I am today without her. All my best food memories are with her and started with her. Whether it was playing with lobsters in our Nona’s restaurant’s walk-in fridge, or going to the grocery store to shop and having the time of our lives, she was always there to enjoy the pleasures food and cooking can bring with me. In 2020, as the world crumbled around us, our world crumbled too when we lost Shannon to type 1 diabetes. Ultimately she wouldn’t let it run her life, and unfortunately that disease doesn’t like taking second place. Her friends, family and job were first place in her life, and that allowed her to live an exciting and fun life. She always wanted to open a restaurant that served eggs and beer lol, (which I hope to do for her one day) and her favorite job was one where she could “wear a baseball hat and listen to music” in the kitchen. She was fun loving and it showed in her food.

These cookies reflect her life, spirit, and cooking because they’re fun and casual, but they’re complex in flavor, just like her cooking was. Every year, a portion of the profits I make goes to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, to hopefully one day find a cure for this horrible disease. I love you Shannon.
